
Short Film News - Hot Docs organizers announced that contemporary documentary cinema from Central and Eastern Europe will be showcased in the National Spotlight program at 14th Hot Docs Festival, while Brazil has been selected for the "Made in..." program.
Films from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia will be screened in the 2007 Spotlight on Central and Eastern Europe.
Past Spotlights have showcased the documentary cinema of such countries as France (2006), Israel (2005), The Netherlands (2004), the United Kingdom (2003) and Germany (2002).
Also, organizers announced the selection of Brazil for the 2007 "Made in..." program, the festival's other nationally-themed program.
Past "Made in..." program featured the documentary cinema of such countries as Japan (2006), South Africa (2004) and Taiwan (2003) and Made in Brazil is the first Hot Docs showcase of a South American country's documentary cinema.
Spotlight on Central and Eastern Europe and Made in Brazil are just two of more than seven programs planned for Hot Docs 2007, which will take place April 20 to 29.
Submissions for Hot Docs 2007 will be accepted beginning in September 2006, with the early entry deadline being December 15, 2006, and the late entry deadline being January 15, 2007. Submission information is available at www.hotdocs.ca.
