
Short Film News (SFN)- Angles Die in the Soil by Babak Amin won an award in the 14th edition of Palm Springs Short Film Festival.
The film which was the sole representative from Iran in this festival won The Cinema without Borders Best International Film Award.
6.5 Minutes in Tel Aviv by Mirey Brantz won the best of Festival Award and therefore the filmmaker is eligible to submit the film to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Oscar 2009 consideration. The film also won the award of the Best Student Live Action Short under 15 Minutes.
The Future Filmmaker Award which is the second most important award of the festival, went to Friends Forever by Marcel Fores from UK, and the film also won the award of the Best Student Action Short Over 15 Minutes' second place and Kodak Award for Best Student Cinematography's first place.
The Panavision Grand Jury Award was dedicated to A Good Day for a Swim by Bogdan Mustata from Romania. The film also won the Mini Movie Channel Award for Best Live Action Short under 15 Minutes' first place.
The award of the Best Action Short over 15 Minutes went to Cairn from Norway and Hungu from Canada won the Best Animated Short.
The Witness: The View from Room 306 from U.S.A won the Best Documentary Short.
In the Student Categories James from Ireland won the Best Student Live Action Short over 15 Minutes, Procrastination from U.K won the Best Student Animated Short, and A Different Color Blue from U.S.A won the Best Student Documentary Short.
Among the Special Awards, in addition to Angles Die in the Soil, the Alexis Award for Most Promising Student Filmmaker went to Open Your Eyes by Susan Cohen from U.S.A and the Hard C Hi Five to Lo-Fi Award for Best Low Budget Short went to My Rabit Hoppy by Anthony Lucas from Australia.
Jury members include actor Bill Pullman; Eileen Arandiga, Festival Director of the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto; Dana Harris, editor Variety.com; Sydney Levine of Film Finders; and Dragan Milinkovic, Serbian film academic and producer.
Palm Spring Festival which is the most important annual event on America short films took place in August 21-27 and 318 films in it were screened.
